Five Things to Know Before Playing Black Myth: Wukong
A concise introduction to the setting, combat, exploration, builds, and official purchase information.
Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology. If this is your first encounter with the game, these five points will help set the right expectations.
1. It draws inspiration from Journey to the West
The game borrows characters, places, and monster imagery from the classic Chinese novel, but it is not a chapter-by-chapter retelling. Knowing the book makes some references easier to recognize, but it is not required to play.
2. Combat rewards observation and rhythm
Constant offense is not always effective against powerful enemies. Watch their windups, manage distance, and choose the right moment to dodge. Creating an opening with staff techniques and spells is usually more reliable than attacking blindly.
3. Exploration brings practical rewards
Side paths, hidden areas, and optional enemies may provide materials, equipment, or new combat options. When a fight becomes a wall, returning to explore an earlier area can be more useful than repeating the same attempt.
4. Adapt your build to the encounter
Enemies do not share the same rhythm or weaknesses. Skills, spells, spirits, and equipment work best when adjusted around the current challenge, so there is no need to keep one configuration throughout the game.
5. Confirm version details through official channels
The game launched in August 2024. Platform availability, edition contents, and purchase information can change, so check Game Science and the relevant platform store before buying.
